Durante a época de reprodução, o macho apresenta comportamento muito territorialista, não só na região onde está situado o ninho, mas também defende as áreas onde estão localizadas suas fontes de alimento. Ele persegue outras aves e predadores mesmo longe do local do ninho por um voo direto até o intruso acompanhado da emissão de gritos. Belas exibições aéreas são realizadas. Estes voos também são usados como um sinal agressivo para outros machos. Durante as exibições, a apresentação da coloração do abdome é também mais exposta fazendo um belo contraste com a porção interna de coloração escura da asa.
