Jaguarundi

A jaguarundi from the Caatinga scrub. Jaguarundis belong to the puma evolutionary lineage rather than the ocelot lineage (Leopardus lineage). Jaguarundis are diurnal and found in open areas, hence they used to be perceived as an abundant species. In fact they are very rare throughout their range. Furthermore their numbers are negatively impacted by those of the larger ocelot.
