A crab-eating fox from the dry forests of the Caatinga biome. This is South America's most abundant canid, found throughout the whole subcontinent in open areas. It is absent from most of the Amazon Basin and South of the Patagonia. The species is very adaptable, and it survives in deforested and agricultural areas.
